Envirodeck Installed On Award Winning Bridge
The new Northern Spire Bridge in Sunderland opened to traffic on the 28th August 2018 and PDS are extremely proud that our Envirodeck bridge drainage system was selected for use on this impressive structure.
The Northern Spire Bridge is a a three-span cable-stayed structure with a stunning 105 metre high central pier, the bridge is the tallest of its type in the North East and aesthetically a stunning design.
In total, over 1600 Envirodeck units were installed on the Northern Spire and working closely with our sister company Ekspan special expansion joint units were designed and manufactured for the bridge deck.
EnviroDeck is manufactured from high strength yet lightweight composite material and supplied as standard in a light grey colour, complementing adjacent concrete kerblines, providing a visble de-marcation between the road surface and pavement and in the case of the Northen spire almost matching the impressive central pier.
Being non-metallic EnviroDeck units will never corrode or rust and will keep its appearance for many years to come, complementing the aesthetics of this new £117 million structure.
